Stop & Smell the Dying Leaves

I just got back from a classic last-minute, run-around-town shopping spree for Ghostrunners. I’m extremely happy about all the silly little things I bought and extremely excited for you to see what we’ve been cooking up.

HOWEVER! It was extremely upsetting to see Christmas decorations on sale at Home Depot and Walmart! Like what?? Am I koukou-crazy-bananas for thinking all that should wait til after Halloween? Or am I being basic and naive and like yeah this is just how the world works Obviously. Get over it.

In any case, my little in-store meltdown comes at the exact right moment as many people in my life lately have encouraged me to take things (particularly Spiral-related things) slowly and one step at a time. I’ve kind of been brushing that advice aside since I’m always planning ahead and pushing forward.

But staring at Santa with clenched fists and gritted teeth, I realized I haven’t been savoring the rehearsal time I’ve had with the Ghostrunners cast. Whether it’s those on the comedy side of the show bringing dumb-silly choreography or those on the horror side asking beautiful questions or all of us learning about Juan Sotto and Randy Johnson, this whole process has been extremely rewarding. I’ve never been more confident, playful, and inventive as a director. And I hope that that assuredness comes through when you see the show. (Even if you get lost in the Matrix, Wizard of Oz, Inception of it all).
